Vancouver Inspiration Pass

Have you heard about this yet? Just announced on October 24, and apparently I’m already late to the party.

The Vancouver Inspiration Pass gives Vancouverites the chance to explore their city in a whole new way – and for free! With 20 partner venues, including the UBC Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Art Gallery, Science World and more, the VIP was created to “increase community engagement and inclusivity and support lifelong learning, the pass provides opportunities for Vancouver residents – regardless of socio-economic status – to benefit from the many diverse cultural, learning and recreation activities offered throughout Vancouver.”

So how does it work? 120 passes are now in circulation to borrow for two-week periods from library branches throughout the city. All you need is a VPL library card. Once your pass comes available, the library will contact you and pass borrowers may visit each of the participating venues once during the two-week loan period. After your two weeks is up, the pass is transferred to the next person on the waiting list.

More info is available here. Put your name on the waiting list here. Rumour has it, the waiting list is now over a year long…
